THE SOUTH WEST
The South West of France is the most diverse wine regions in France, and
one of the oldest. Situated between the Bordeaux region and the Pyrénées
mountains, this region is exceptionally sunny during the summer. It is a lovely
region of mountains and plateaux, lakes and rivers. It is as diverse as the
wines from region.
Wines from the South West are of excellent quality for the value. They
have a unique personality based on local history and traditions.
Our Côtes de Gascogne wines are from the Gers region on the coast
of Southwest France renowned for the production of Armagnac". Only wine
produced from grapes harvested in the Gers can be called 'Côtes de Gascogne'.
Today, almost two thirds of all vineyards in the Gers are set aside for the
production of Vin de Pays Côtes de Gascogne wines. Vineyards in this
region date as far back as the fifth century.
An oceanic climate tempered by the Landes forests to the west, the Pyrenees
to the south and a mix of sunshine, rain and coolness, offers ideal conditions
to get the best from its vineyards. Fertile soil and climate, secrets handed
down through the generations and modern technology are key factors contributing
to the distinctive flavors of Vin de Pays Côtes de Gascogne.
Our VDP Côtes de Gascogne Sauvignon and Ugni Blanc-Colombard Blend are
both from an important estate that has been in the same family since 1912.
Fruity, full and round, these wines, typical of the region, are delicious
with fish and seafood.
