WINES OF BORDEAUX
Bordeaux's reputation is built on its red wines, especially those from the
Médoc, Saint-Emilion, Pomerol, and on Sauternes (sweet white) districts.
The region also produces a wide range of other excellent wines, including
dry and sweet whites, rosé and clairet, and a sparkling wine known
as Crémant de Bordeaux.
Almost all Bordeaux are blends of several different grape varieties, which
are harvested and vinified separately, and then blended to create the desired
taste. The type of grape that can be planted in each appellation is strictly
controlled by the A.O.C. law.
